I’m not sure if I have any secrets to share, words of wisdom to offer, or confirmation of a blissful ride and the description of a peaceful and calm destination……but I do know this:
Love can be quick and easy. It can be long, difficult, and tedious. It can be simple and effortless, and it can be just as complex and strenuous. It can be beautiful and full of fairytale moments, and then it can be more challenging that you could imagine in a mere blink of an eye. But marriage, a perfect marriage, is knowing that no matter what, you always have someone on your side. You have your own personal cheerleader when you need it, and a voice of reason when you probably don’t want it. A partner, a friend, and a person you should never take for granted.
I describe marriage like a teeter-totter…. in the best moments you are equal and level and going through life looking straight into the eyes of your other half. Keeping each other perfectly balanced. Then there are times when you are down, or he is down, and the other needs to help lift them back up….to be level again. This goes on and on and on…with long intervals of steady, even, level, and balanced. And then without notice one of you will find yourself in need of a boost, OR to be reminded to not keep you head in the clouds. But, these moments of varied levels don’t always indicate bad things, bad times, or being low. These moments can also be invigorating, exciting, exhilarating……but always knowing that you need to get back to balanced…not stagnant, but balanced. You can imagine that it’s much, much easier to keep a teeter-totter in motion, up and down, taking turns, just alternating who is in which position, pushing, bouncing, lifting, falling, but the hardest part is to remain balanced. To keep your marriage equal and level requires enormous attention to your other half….what do they need from you at that moment? Work together, and be there for each other when the time comes that you need each others help. Those times WILL come.
So, here’s to a marriage that has perfect balance and aware partners for when the teeter-totter is in motion.
Best wishes….it is a fun and very rewarding ride!
