Dance for joy….not for scores. Dance for love…..not for a trophy. Dance with passion…..not with fear. Dance to give…..not to receive. Dance with your heart and your feet will follow. Dance to entertain your audience….not to achieve a high score. Dance because you want to……not because you’re expected to. Dance is an art, not a competitive sport. Dance comes from within and only then is dance in it’s truest artistic form. Dance is not simply about leaps, turns, jumps, acrobatics and tricks. It is not about choreographed and timed winks at judges, or learning a new routine every week. It is about long and steady discipline. It is about work at the ballet barre week after week, year after year, and constant love and support within the dance family. It is about gradual progress as our physical body is able to achieve it. Dance is not a race. It is learning about yourself, understanding and respecting your body. It is about learning who you are and being proud of that person. It is about poise, grace, and self discipline. When I open our recital program to the page displaying the photos of all our graduates, I see an amazing representation of talent, and genuine, truly genuine outstanding young women. I am so proud of each of them, and I remember them as little girls coming to take dance for the first time… what a journey and what a great legacy.
